How Microneedling works
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. We use the SkinPen, the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA. One important distinction: SkinPen microneedling is not the same as RF microneedling, which adds radiofrequency energy and is a different treatment. Confirm the device and the RF distinction with your RN.
Device confirm: verify SkinPen is in use and confirm it is not RF microneedling before publishing. RN/MD sign-off required.

Acne scars are one of the most common reasons people come to us for microneedling. By prompting new collagen in the scarred area, a series of sessions can soften the depressed, pitted scars that acne leaves behind and bring the surface closer to even. Results build gradually, which is part of how the treatment works.
Microneedling works best on atrophic (depressed) acne scars, including rolling and boxcar types. Ice pick scars, which are narrow and deep, typically respond less well on their own. Your RN will assess your scarring honestly at your consultation and tell you what is realistic for your specific pattern.
Most people do a series of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. You may also want to ask your RN about combining microneedling with a topical growth factor or serum for additional results.

RECOVERY
Microneedling recovery: what to expect
Most people have redness for about 24 to 72 hours, then return to normal. Results develop over the following weeks. Your RN gives you full aftercare at your appointment. Confirm specific recovery timelines with your RN before treatment.

Your skin will look red and feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and typically settles within a few hours to a day. Most people go home and rest for the evening.

Day 1 - 3
Redness and mild sensitivity are normal for the first 24 to 72 hours. Skin may feel dry or tight. Avoid sun, makeup, and active skincare ingredients until your RN clears you.

Day 3 - 7
Redness settles. Skin may flake slightly as it renews. Keep it moisturized and protected from the sun. Most people look presentable by day three or four.

Week 2 - 6
This is when new collagen forms and results start to appear. Skin looks smoother, texture improves, and scars begin to soften. The full result of a session develops over this window.
