THE BASICS
What is a chemical peel and how does it work?
A chemical peel uses a carefully chosen solution to exfoliate the top layers of skin in a controlled way. As the old surface skin sheds, fresher skin comes through, and that turnover is what improves tone, texture, and brightness over time.
Peels come in different strengths. Lighter peels give a gentle refresh with little to no visible peeling, while stronger peels do more for pigment and texture but involve a few days of flaking. At Urban Allure, your RN assesses your skin and recommends the right level before any treatment begins.
We use SkinMedica peels. Confirm your exact peel line and levels with your RN at your consultation.
1 Brighter Skin
Cell turnover reveals fresher skin underneath and gives you a noticeable glow, even after a lighter peel.
2 Smoother texture
Surface roughness, fine lines, and the texture left by breakouts improve as the treated skin sheds.
3 Fading pigment
Hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and acne marks respond well to regular peels because the process speeds up how quickly discolored cells turn over.
4 Clearer skin
Peels clear pore congestion and help with active breakouts, making them a good option for acne-prone skin types.

The lightest option. A good starting point for new peel patients or anyone who wants a glow without visible flaking. Results are subtle and build with a series.
SkinMedica Vitalize Peel
A step up in strength. Addresses mild pigment, texture, and fine lines. Expect a few days of peeling from around day two or three. Popular for its balance of results and recovery.

SKIN CONCERNS
Chemical peels for hyperpigmentation and acne
Peels are one of the better tools for uneven pigment because they work at the skin-cell level. By accelerating turnover, they help discolored cells shed faster and let clearer skin come through. Results build with a series rather than a single treatment, and your RN will tell you how many to expect for your concern.
If pigment is your main concern, your RN may also recommend pairing peels with a home skincare routine, including a medical-grade sunscreen, to keep new pigment from forming as you treat what is already there.
Hyperpigmentation
Peels speed up cell turnover and help fade dark spots and uneven tone, including sun damage and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Melasma-prone skin
Peels can help with melasma-prone discoloration, though melasma responds best as part of a broader care plan that includes sun protection and home care. Your RN will talk you through it.
Acne and breakouts
Chemical peels clear pore congestion and reduce active breakouts by removing the surface buildup that contributes to them.
Acne scars and texture
The rough texture and uneven tone that acne leaves behind respond well to a series of peels, especially at medium or deeper strength.
RECOVERY
Chemical peel recovery: what to expect day by day
Recovery depends on the peel strength your RN recommends. A light peel may leave you pink with minimal flaking. This timeline is a general guide for medium peels. Your RN confirms what to expect for your specific treatment.
Day 1
Skin may look slightly pink and feel tight. Light peels: this is typically all you see. Medium and deeper peels: peeling usually starts around day two or three, not day one.
Day 2-3
Peeling begins, usually starting around the nose and mouth first. Your skin may feel dry and pull slightly. Do not pick or pull the skin — let it shed on its own.
Day 3-5
This is typically the heaviest peeling window for medium and deeper peels. Keep skin moisturized and avoid sun exposure. Your RN gives you a full aftercare kit and instructions.
Day 7+
Most of the peeling has settled. New skin looks brighter and fresher. Final results continue to improve over the following weeks as cell turnover completes.

It depends on the peel type and strength. Some peels carry a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on deeper skin tones if not chosen and applied correctly. Your RN assesses your skin at your complimentary consultation and only recommends peels that are appropriate for you.
